Metaltek-Scott is an exciting, new cycling team hitting the British cycling road scene for 2012.  

Although being completely new, it has managed to attract some of the biggest names in UK cycling along with some fantastic sponsors and suppliers and the team will look to be a serious threat to the already established UK outfits.

The team is managed by Andy Swain, owner of Metaltek Engineering Solutions, a CNC engineering company in Melton Mowbray.  Andy has been involved in cycling for over 25 years as a competitor, race organiser, race sponsor and co-sponsor of both national and regional level teams.  Andy is assisted in managing the team by Rachel Paling, who comes from a family of national champions and Tour riders. 

The team of riders include a wealth of experience and talented young riders, including previous national champions, World Championship medallists and Commonwealth Games medallists.  They have been individually handpicked from the huge amount of interest that was received, to ensure all aspects of racing are covered enabling the team to be strong contenders on all levels.

Racing

The team will be targeting British Cycling’s premier calendar and Elite Circuit Series as well as National Championships in road, circuit, team trial and team pursuit disciplines.  Rides are also on the cards for the An Post Ras and other European races. A successful application has been granted allowing the team to participate in ‘The Halfords Tour Series’.  This is an exciting, fast and furious series of 11 criterium races travelling around the country between May and June (check out the Metalktek Race Calendar  for dates and venues).

Equipment

The team attracted SCOTT who has supplied the team with foil road and plasma time trial bikes, shoes and helmets. Nutrition and energy products come courtesy of High 5 and BEET IT. Continental are supplying tyres and tubulars. Skoda continue their support of global cycling with team cars. USE will be supplying components and TT bars whilst their sister company, Exposure, will provide lights for winter training.  ProSport Distribution have supplied the team kit in their new aerodynamic PS+ range manufactured by MSTina in Italy.

Breaking from the current trend, the team has secured substantial backing from several companies outside of the cycling industry (see Sponsors page).  Further opportunities are still available for companies to be associated with the team and join in the exciting future, growth and success of Metaltek-Scott.
